Punjab CM Amarinder Singh dismisses Arvind Kejriwal's apology as'antic

During the election campaign, Kejriwal had accused Majitha, who is the brother of Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, of his involvement in drug trade, leading to the defamation case against the AAP leader.

AAP MLAs were also of the opinion that Kejriwal should not have tendered apology when he himself led the charge against Majithia on drug issue during 2017 Punjab Assembly polls.

"I am resigning as a president of AAP Punjab... but my fight against drug mafia and all kind of corruption in Punjab will continue as an "Aam Aadmi "of Punjab", he said on his twitter handle".

As many as 20 MLAs including two legislators of Lok Insaf Party on Friday held a meeting here to decide on the next course of action in the wake of Kejriwal's apology.

Just a day ago, AAP chief Kejriwal retracted his allegation in a letter and tendered his apology to him. "After hearing all the interested parties, traders, RWAs, we have framed a proposal which is created to make Delhi a more livable place", he said. Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly and senior AAP leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira said he was appalled by the apology. "The majority of MLAs are of the considered view that we should move away from the Delhi unit and declare ourselves independent". "I don't know why he does that, but this is no way for a chief minister to behave, irrespective of his lack of experience", said Amarinder Singh.

"The MLAs who did not want to immediately exercise that option said they would first like to consult their volunteers and party workers before moving ahead", added Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu. He accepted funds from Punjabis and also promised to punish Majithia.

Mr. Sandoa said, "I met Kejriwal today [Saturday]".

Among other issues, drug abuse was a major issue in the Punjab Assembly elections previous year, he said.

"It is a matter of pain that on one side Kejriwal could not understand the ground reality and he was giving his apology and on other hand STF submitted its report in the high court", he said.

The state leadership had said the "meek surrender" was painful and very unfortunate. The presence of a full and active crowd at the ongoing All India Congress Committee (AICC) plenary session also showed that people were looking up to Rahul Gandhi, Singh said and ruled out any element of sycophancy in the response of the party members to Gandhi's leadership.
