"At least one person was killed and many were injured when the bus, which was carrying high school students, fell into a ravine near the highway of Federal importance in the County of Baldwin, Alabama", - said the local police.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.30 a.m.as two charter buses transported children from the Channelview High School band in Texas from a spring break trip at Disney World in Florida.

First Class Tours, which operated the bus, said in a statement that the bus was carrying students home from Orlando, Florida, and the company is cooperating with investigators. The company was "deeply saddened for this loss", the statement said. After being sent to 10 different hospitals, Ollis says the students and staff are now in two hospitals in Florida and Alabama.

Robyn Bradley Bryan, a spokeswoman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said in an e-mail there were "multiple injuries" in the early morning crash.

A charter bus sits in a ravine after a deadly crash in Loxley, Ala. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Medical officials said at least 37 people, a lot of them teenagers, were treated at hospitals or other facilities in Pensacola and southwestern Alabama for injuries that ranged from minor to very serious.

The bus driver, Harry Caligone, was a long-time driver for First Class Tours out of Houston.

Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola has received 18 patients as a result of the crash, according to its website.

Kotowski said he had no information to release regarding the autopsy of Caligone, who had nearly made it to Mobile where he was going to be replaced by another driver when the bus crashed. The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. CT, crunching the bus and leaving the passengers exposed to temperatures in the low 40s.

Josh Torres said his 17-year-old sister, Bianca Torres, was sitting at the rear of the bus when the impact of the wreck tossed her forward several rows. That bus stopped briefly and continued on to Channelview, a Houston suburb of about 38,000.

"Harry's the sweetest person you would ever want to meet".

"Our prayers are with the injured and their families at this time", the company wrote in a statement.

Of the injured, one was listed in critical condition, five were listed in serious condition and the others had minor injuries, according to authorities.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration said between 2006 and 2015 there have been 1,172 "school transportation related" crashes, leading to 1,313 deaths.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said she spoke with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and told him her office will do whatever it can to assist the victims.

WALA said that first responders rappelled into the ravine to rescue passengers.

Abbott offered his condolences to the victims and families.

His being eligible is the reason coach Avery Johnson has Alabama back in the NCAAs and why the Crimson Tide are fun to watch. It last won two NCAA Tournament games in 1967. "I've been told that doesn't matter at all", Calipari said facetiously.
