3 terrorists killed in encounter in Anantnag

Three militants were killed today in a brief encounter with security forces in Hakura of south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Reports said that majority of the trades in Lal Chowk shutdown their shops and business establishments in wake of the killing of three militants. The group affiliation of the slain terrorists was not immediately known. The fire was retaliated by the security forces, ensuing an encounter.

Also, restrictions have been imposed in old Srinagar city and high-speed internet is down as well.

Schools that had reopened two days ago after the winter vacations have been shut down as a precautionary measure.

Two of the slain militants have been identified as Eisa Fazili of Srinagar and Syed Owais Shafi of south Kashmir's Kokernag, while the identity of the third is being ascertained, a police statement said.

Kashmir University also postponed all exams as well as suspended class work.

Sources and witnesses said clashes broke out between protesters and government forces in Anantnag district while as classwork has been suspended in some educational institutions of the district to thwart any plans of protests by students.

"We have resumed train service and all trains will operate as per schedule in the Valley following fresh advisory from police last night", a senior railway official said.

Pro-Kashmir independence political leaders Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been placed under house arrest.

Police officials said that Fazli, who had dropped out of the BTech course at the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGBSU), was active with TuM. He had also called upon the youth to join militancy.

"Fearing protests in Srinagar city as one of the killed militant belongs to Soura of Srinagar city".
