Rapper Juelz Santana surrendered himself to Port Authority Newark Airport police on Monday following a weekend of being on the run.

Police believed he fled the airport in a taxicab. A separate report from TMZ adds that the 36-year-old has been booked for unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled unsafe substance, and an "unspecified federal warrant". Carl Cifaldi of the borough police said that no one was home when police arrived.

A TSA agent spotted what looked like a firearm in James' bag and called Port Authority police. He is set to appear before a judge in US District Court in Newark.

A nation-wide manhunt for Juelz Santana seemed out of the question considering the light nature of the offence, in reference to the rapper running from TSA agents.

The 36-year-old rapper - real name: LaRon James - was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Santana had been sought since Friday, when a loaded.38-caliber handgun was found in a bag passing through an X-ray at a Newark Liberty International Airport security checkpoint.

And in 2011, a search of his Bergenfield recording studio turned up two loaded 9mm handguns and 17 bags of suspected marijuana.

Friday evening, Santana was making his way through the security screening process at Terminal C when Transportation Security Administration (TSA) uncovered a gun.
