Kobe Bryant took home the award for Best Animated Short at the Academy Awards this year, and in the press room after the show, he opened up about why the win made him so emotional.

Bryant collaborated with producer Gary Keane and legendary film score composer John Williams to make the five minute short based on the essay he wrote when he announced his retirement from the National Basketball Association.

The five-time NBA championship victor won the award for his short film, Dear Basketball, and accepted the honor with his director, Glen Keane, during the show.

"And to Kobe, for writing 'Dear Basketball, ' it's a message for all of us", Keane said during his acceptance speech.

"I think everybody wants to approach things in whatever position that is comfortable for them", Bryant continued.

"As basketball players, we're told to shut up and dribble", Bryant said on stage.

"It's awesome to me that Hollywood could be so blind that on the same day they when they won't talk to Ryan Seacrest and when they won't allow Casey Affleck to even present an award at the Oscars, they somehow give Kobe Bryant an Oscar", stated Travis.

Bryant's comment was directed at Fox News' Laura Ingraham, who recently told LeBron James to "Shut up and dribble", in reference to his vocal political opinions. "Or as someone once said, 'Shut up and dribble, '" also applauded Bryant for his achievement.
