'MASH' Star David Ogden Stiers Dies at 75

The actor's agent Mitchell Stubbs confirmed Saturday night in an email that Stiers died after battling bladder cancer.

He went on to lend his voice to other Disney features, like Pocahontas (1995) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), as well as to a number of animated TV productions, including the 2000-02 Disney series Teacher's Pet. He also contributed the voice of the grandfather for the English-language version of Hayao Miyazaki's 1992 animation "Porco Rosso" and of Kamaji in Miyazki's classic "Spirited Away" in 2001. Classically trained at the Juilliard School and the Houseman Acting Company, he launched into films with voice-over work in George Lucas' "THX 1138".

His earlier television credits include The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Kojak and Charlie's Angels.

His film credits included the Woody Allen films Mighty Aphrodite, Everyone Says I Love You, and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, as well as Better Off Dead, Iron Will and The Majestic. As the snobbish Winchester, Stiers was a ideal foil for Alan Alda's lovable, wise-cracking character Hawkeye Pierce.
